In favour of the agricultural energy management developments and research of renewable energy resources an independent research Department was established in the late 1970’s. The primary aim of the project was the investigation of renewable fuels and its combustion units as well as the collection of technical requirement of these biofuels and boilers. Due to the several different research tasks, the Department performs experiments focused on extraordinary fuels. During these experiments woody and herbaceous biomass samples and municipal solid waste samples (MSW) are analysed. The goal of these projects is a type of fuel development which has sustainable production and its utilization is environment friendly. This Department focuses on the research of co-generation energy production which will be one of the most important segment of future energy production. The Institute has an own complex agroforestry and energy plantation where scientists can research different alley cropping and bioenergy systems in parallel. It provides a good overview of innovative cultivation technologies and innovative energy supply technologies for example pelletizing, gasification, etc. The Institute is dedicated to the knowledge transfer. On the Institute’s area a demonstration park has been established where experiences and results are shared with the public. In the last several years the Department has been taking part in different national and international research and development projects due to the professional knowledge of the colleges and also state-of-the-art infrastructure of the Institute.
